Any man can be a father, but not every man can be a daddy. There’s a distinct difference embedded in the DNA of the parent-child relationship that is made clear by words and actions. It is stitched into the fabric of every interaction and sewn tightly together with the needle of love.
One of the ways this love is expressed is in the uncomplicated action of attentive listening. Always take time to hear what your child is saying to you and read between the proverbial lines. Have face to face chat times each day where you catch up with your children. During those times of just talking, sharing, and listening, you ultimately create a beautiful bond that endures for a lifetime.
This is something my dad did with me when I was a kid and still does now that I am an adult. It may seem like a simple act, but it truly is a profound gift of love I am forever grateful for. Impromptu chats started at the kitchen table, on the car ride home from practice or just while watching television became the springboard for daddy-daughter bonding moments.
Never underestimate the power of conversations with your child. It can mold their life and form priceless memories.
